The artist has donated the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

He was presented with the award on 16 October as his latest record the album was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

He has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots played in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the shows I performed around the region, and beyond, when I was starting out," stated Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help local stages.

He also took part, collecting over £100k on his live tour to assist 38 local spots across Britain.

The money assisted locations that were facing possible closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues received funding support in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and audiences.

"The idea that money from concerts in large arenas helps the smaller venues, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," the star has said.

Fender is among several artists to give his Mercury Prize funds to charitable organizations.

When Pulp received the prize in the mid-90s for their record Different Class, vocalist Cocker stated that the group would donate their cash to the organization the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her bounty between multiple charities, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the youth organization that supported their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

And the 1994 recipients the group gave their prize to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the condition.

"Winning was ample," stated artist Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust announced it had rescued several grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in the city and the other in Bristol were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
